Il giovane Takeshi Onikawara, un ragazzo all'apparenza goffo e scansafatiche, entra in possesso del polimet, uno speciale casco che riveste chi lo indossa di un polimero pressoché indistruttibile, consentendo anche di trasformarsi in qualunque veicolo (aereo, sottomarino, ecc.). Il ragazzo, in disaccordo con il padre (capo dell'Interpol), riceve in dono il polimet dal suo inventore – uno scienziato ucciso da una banda di criminali – e, dopo essersi addestrato nel suo utilizzo, cambia il suo cognome in Yoroi e passa a lavorare come assistente di Joe Kuruma, un investigatore privato da quattro soldi. Kuruma opera con lo pseudonimo di Sherlock Holmes Jr., assistito dalla propria segretaria Teru e da un cane San Bernardo di nome Barone. Grazie all'uso del polimet, Takeshi riuscirà a risolvere qualunque caso, diventando così Hurricane Polimar (nell'originale inglese Hurricane Polymar).
