La corazzata Yamato è una serie televisiva anime e manga di fantascienza con protagonista l'omonima astronave.
Nel 2199 la Terra subisce un continuo e massiccio bombardamento di asteroidi radioattivi, provenienti dall'ostile pianeta Gamilon al cui comando c'è il Supremo Desslock. Ben presto, l'intero pianeta diviene un deserto radioattivo e l'intera popolazione terrestre è costretta a rifugiarsi nel sottosuolo. L'unica speranza per l'umanità consiste nel raggiungere il pianeta Iskandar e recuperare il Cosmo DNA (un meccanismo in grado di eliminare la radioattività), offerto dalla Regina Starsha. Per questo viaggio viene scelta la nave da battaglia della seconda guerra mondiale Yamato, che giace incagliata sul fondale di un mare ormai prosciugato. La Yamato, ribattezzata Argo, viene trasformata quindi, in una nave spaziale e dotata di un equipaggio di 117 uomini, che guidati dall'esperto capitano Avatar, dovranno raggiungere Iskandar e ritornare entro 365 giorni, per garantire alla Terra di ritornare il pianeta abitabile che era.
