Una mattina d'inverno, mentre si trova in macchina su una superstrada, Beth (Diane Keaton) salva un cane randagio e, nonostante il parere contrario del marito Joseph (Kevin Kline), decide di tenerlo con sé instaurandovi un legame speciale.
