Nel villaggio di Domrémy, la tredicenne Giovanna d'Arco ha strane visioni e sente una voce che le impone di salvare la Francia e aiutare Carlo VII. Decide dunque di recarsi al cospetto dell'erede al trono. Il suo arrivo e la sua pretesa di parlare a nome di Dio suscitano lo scalpore. Lo stesso Carlo VII, affascinato dalla prospettiva di un successo la mette a capo di un esercito con il quale pone assedio ad Orléans.
