Malcolm Anderson è un cronista di nera che ha condotto un'inchiesta sull'omicidio di una ragazza. Un giorno riceve una telefonata: è l'assassino, che gli fa i suoi complimenti e gli annuncia altre sue quattro imminenti imprese, dandogli informazioni che permettono ad Anderson di diventare un cronista di fama. I guai cominciano quando questi cerca di liberarsi del suo scomodo "alleato". Ci andrà di mezzo anche la moglie del giornalista, prima che i due uomini arrivino allo scontro finale.
