Inizia così una trafila presso la burocrazia vaticana che lo porterà a contatto con una serie di incredibili personaggi e situazioni paradossali. Inutilmente un commissario della polizia vaticana tenta dapprima di dissuaderlo dal proposito, poi lo aiuta mettendolo in contatto con faccendieri ed esponenti dell'aristocrazia nera, ma sempre inutilmente.
