Andy ormai è cresciuto e sta per partire per il college. Mentre mette in una scatola destinata alla soffitta i suoi amati giocattoli trova Woody e Buzz e decide di portare Woody con sé. Per un errore però, la scatola viene scambiata dal netturbino per spazzatura e caricata sul camion dei rifiuti. Solo Woody se ne accorge ma non riesce nel suo tentativo di salvataggio. Per i giocattoli iniziano così una serie di avventure destinate a culminare in una eroica fuga verso nuovi destini.
