A causa di un incidente, un gruppo di persone è ospite in casa del dottor Nijinski (Klaus Kinski), un luminare dal comportamento ambiguo e con una moglie di cui nessuno può vedere il viso. Tempo prima la donna è rimasta vittima di un incendio e Nijinski è ossessionato dall'idea di restituirle la bellezza, compiendo orrendi trapianti con l'aiuto del'assistente Vania.
