Per sfuggire a una funesta profezia, la perfida regina Bavmorda manda i suoi emissari a uccidere la neonata Elora Danan. Naturalmente la bimba viene sottratta alla morte con uno strattagemma: messa in una cesta viene lasciata andare per la corrente di un fiume. La raccoglie un giovane contadino, Willow, di una pacifica razza di nani agricoltori che in seguito si adopera perché le siano restituiti i suoi diritti.
