Sheldon (James Caan), autore di una serie di libri di successo, sta
rientrando a New York dallo chalet in cui si è ritirato per scrivere
l'ultimo libro, in cui ha deciso di fare morire la sua onnipresente
eroina, Misery. A causa della neve esce di strada con la macchina e
viene soccorso da Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) che lo "ricovera" nella
propria casa isolata. Sheldon quindi casca, ma casca in piedi visto che
la donna è un'infermiera professionista. Anche se poi non avrà modo di
usarli molto, i suoi piedi...
