Figlio del leggendario esploratore e cineasta Jacques Cousteau, con il film Le Meraviglie del Mare il regista Jean-Michel decide di imbarcarsi con i figli Celine e Fabien e la sua troupe in un viaggio meraviglioso.
Il percorso dura tre anni: parte dalle isole Fiji e si spinge fino alle Bahamas, esplorando Oceani sconosciuti per scoprire di più su ciò che li minaccia. Grazie alle nuove tecniche di ripresa subacquea in 3D e alla risoluzione 4K, milioni di spettatore potranno immergersi in un mondo marino inesplorato e pieno di bellissime sorprese.
La voce che accompagna la versione originale del documentario è quella di Arnold Schwarzenegger (che del film è anche produttore) , che ci guida a un tripudio di immagini che mostrano le incontaminate bellezze degli Oceani, invitandoci a fare tutto ciò che possiamo per salvarle dalla rovina causata dalle nostre stesse mani. Un film che vuole stimolare una grande presa di coscienza in tutti noi: dobbiamo amare e proteggere il luogo magico in cui abbiamo la fortuna di vivere.
