Descrizione "There is hardly another opera, which is as ambiguous as Mozart’s “Magic Flute”. A magic tale or a mystery play, an allegory on good and evil or a parable of true love – Mozart’s last opera allows many ways of interpretation, a fact, which even after more than 200 years contributes to the topic’s relevance. Regardless of the different interpretations one point is indisputable: “The Magic Flute” is a wonderful fairy tale which should be watched with the eyes of a child: “Call back your childhood if you want to understand the Magic Flute”, as the second husband of Mozart’s widow, Georg Nikolaus Nissen, remarked aptly. The open-air staging of the Opera Festival St. Margarethen from 1999 follows this suggestion. Manfred Waba stages the opera as fairy tale about love in its countless forms and varieties and offers the audience in the splendid scenery of the Roman quarry an unique and “magic” experience. As special feature the DVD contains interviews with persons involved plus a short expedition through the stage set."
