Una band death metal altamente influente di Göteborg, in Svezia. Spesso considerati i pionieri del "metal di Göteborg", o stile death metal melodico.

At The Gates è stata fondata nel settembre 1990 da Tomas Lindberg, Alf Svensson, Anders Björler, Jonas Björler e Adrian Erlandsson ed è stata una fusione delle band Grotesque e Infestation. La carriera discografica della band è iniziata con l'EP "Gardens of Grief", che è stato pubblicato dalla loro etichetta locale Dolores nel 1991. Successivamente hanno firmato per Peaceville Records e pubblicato il loro album di debutto "The Red in the Sky Is Ours" nel 1992. Dopo il "Con Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness" nel 1993 Alf Svensson lasciò la band per concentrarsi sulle sue altre carriere come tatuatore e illustratore comico. Il suo sostituto è stato trovato nell'ex chitarrista dei House Of Usher Martin Larsson. Dopo il "Terminal Spirit Disease" del 1994 la band fu firmata per la Earache Records e pubblicò "Slaughter of the Soul" nel 1995. Nell'estate del 1996, poco dopo il tour per l'album, Anders decise tuttavia di lasciare la band, risultando in l'intero gruppo si è diviso al culmine della loro carriera.
