Prisoners of the Ghostland, film diretto da Sion Sono, è ambientato a Samurai Town, cittadina di frontiera, e racconta la storia di Hero (Nicolas Cage), un famigerato criminale, nonché esperto rapinatore di banche. L'uomo è in prigione, ma viene rimesso in libertà grazie all'intervento di The Governor (Bill Moseley), il signore della guerra della città, che ha un compito da affidargli: sua nipote Berenice è scomparsa e vuole che Hero si avventuri in una missione suicida per trovare la ragazza.
Se non riesce a compiere l'impresa entro tre giorni, Hero verrà fatto esplodere. È così che si mette sulle tracce di Berenice nella speranza di non finire in una nuvola di cenere.
